ExamSoft Testing Program Instructions
NOTE: As of September 3, 2015, when you register Examplify for the first time you will be asked for the "InstitutionID" = fiunursing
The Department of Nurse Anesthesiology uses a computerized exam system called ExamSoft. With this program we will be administering our exams, quizzes and other assessments on computer so that you get more practice in taking computerized exams. In order to take your exam with this system you have to download a special program onto your laptop computer that enables you to take the exam. This program is called "Examplify" made by the testing company ExamSoft.
Before you start, you are strongly urged to view the ExamSoft videos and Test Taker information at the top left of this page. From here you can then proceed to the login and setup as a new test taker.
In order to get started you will have to follow a few steps below to install and set up the Examplify program. After you have done this once, you will not need to do this step again you will just download an exam and take your test. However, from time to time ExamSoft will make updates to the Examplify program and you will need to update your program so that you have the latest software. Most of the updates from ExamSoft will automatically update when you connect.
Downloading the "Examplify" program -
You will need to follow the instructions below if you need to renew an old version of Examplify, or if you are downloading Examplify for the first time.
2. Select Florida International University, be aware that there is more than one FIU program using Examsoft. Make sure and select the Nurse Anesthetist Program (fiunursing)
3. Log in using your exact ID and Password you were assigned to use in order to login to the case count system.
4. Download Examplify. Once you have downloaded the program, follow the onscreen instructions to register your version of Examplify. Once you have downloaded and registered Examplify, this is the program you will use to then download your exams and to take your exams. You will notice that the program has installed a shortcut icon for Examplify onto your computer desktop and onto your list of Programs that you can access from the Windows or MAC "START" button.
Note: You are not required to take the “Qualification Exam” (or demo exam from ExamSoft) that you will see mentioned in the ExamSoft system. However, if you want to preview how the exam will appear on screen, follow the instructions to take the Practice Exam. Our exams will be mostly multiple choice so the practice exam exams for essay question will not appear on your actual exam unless your instructor specifically plans to include this type of question. If this is your first time using ExamSoft it is a good idea to look at the qualification or practice exam before you take your first exam.
Downloading your exam -
1. To download your copy of the exam, launch (or start) the Examplify program. you can launch the program from the icon that was installed on your desktop, or by going to START>PROGRAMS>Examplify. (Do not go to the FIU-DNP ExamSoft webpage where you downloaded the Examplify program, that step has already been done, start the Examplify program you installed)
2. From the Examplify Launcher window, click on Download Exam Files to download a copy of your exam. Again, enter your ID and password that you currently use for the case count system. If you connect to a screen that asks for a Down Load password, no password is required to download this exam therefore click NEXT. Now select the exam(s) you will take and click Download. At this point the exam has downloaded to your computer and you are ready to take the exam.
Taking your exam -
To begin the exam, follow these steps. Please note that you must take the exam on the same computer on which you downloaded it. We will not be saving exams or answers to a floppy disk. Once you start the exam, the ExamSoft program will lock out access to your other computer programs until you finish and closeout the exam. If you are taking the exam in class, your instructor will give you the exam access password so that you may start the exam. If you are taking the exam outside of class, your instructor will inform you whether or not there is a password and whether or not the exam has a time limit. For exams with an automatic time limit, you will not be able to stop or restart the exam clock so you need to complete the exam in one session. Follow the onscreen instructions for taking the exam. To answer the question, click the box next to your answer and then click the arrow to advance to the next question. Some questions will have additional information or graphics that will appear in a pop-up window along with that specific question.
Double-click the “Examplify” icon on your Windows Desktop or by using START>PROGRAMS>Examplify.

If you follow the steps above and follow the onscreen instructions in the ExamSoft program you should not have any problems. If you encounter a problem, don’t panic we will work it out. Please send your instructor an email message documenting the time and nature of the problem. Second, you can contact ExamSoft Tech Support at support@examsoft.com or 866-429-8889 Toll Free. Note that support personnel cannot provide exam file passwords nor can they extend download periods, that can only be done by your course instructor. Don’t forget that most all of the ExamSoft and Examplify windows you will see on your screen also have a HELP button that you can click to answer common questions that you may have about that particular screen.
Note about Firewall & Virus Programs- If your
computer contains a personal firewall (e.g. Norton Personal Firewall,
McAfee Personal Firewall, Zone Alarm, etc), you should instruct your
personal firewall to treat www.examsoft.com as a trusted website. If
unsure how to do so, please see your manufacturer's instructions. If
you are still unsure how to do this, turn off the antivirus software
until after you have finished with downloading, taking, and uploading
your exams. If you have the FIU Clean Access program for on-campus
wireless access running, you will need to disable that in order to
download and install Examplify. You do not need to have a live internet
connection during the exam, to take the exam. You will only need to
connect to the internet to download or upload your exam - not to take
the exam. You may find it helpful to turn off your wireless connection
when you are taking an exam. Please remember to enable WiFi before uploading your exam.
