Who is ExamSoft?
ExamSoft Worldwide, Inc. is a software developer specializing in computerized assessment and assessment administration programs.

What is SofTest™?
SofTest
is a high stakes assessment program developed and licensed by ExamSoft that enables exam takers to securely take examinations downloaded to their own laptop computers by blocking access to files, programs and the Internet during an exam.
Using SofTest, you will download your exam files prior to the day of the Bar Examination and upload your MPT and Essay answer files on the day of the exam via the Internet.  However, you WILL NOT be able to access the Internet during the Bar Examination.  The exam files are password protected; therefore, you will not be able to access them until the day of the Bar Examination when specific instructions will be given to you.

What are the recommended minimum system requirements for using SofTest?
SofTest may be used on a PC or MAC.  However, it cannot be used with PC emulation software. You must provide your own laptop computer that meets or exceeds the Minimum System Requirements found by clicking minimum system requirements links above or at http://go.examsoft.com/barexam.

Internet Access (connection) is required to receive email notices regarding Laptop Registration, to download and install software, to upload the Mock Exam answer, to download exam files, and to upload MPT and Essay answer files.

SofTest can be used on virtually any modern computer (i.e. purchased within the last 3-4 years). For specific system requirements, please click on Minimum System Requirements above.

Will I be able to use an Apple Macintosh laptop for the Bar Examination?
Yes.
SofTest software is available for both PC and MAC laptop users. DO NOT WAIT until the last minute to test your Apple MacBook or MacBook Pro laptop for compatibility to SofTest, nor wait until the last minute to download and install SofTest to your laptop.

Can SofTest be used in Virtual Operating Systems?
No.  It is not possible to take Secure Exams through a virtual operating system such as Microsoft's Virtual Machine, Parallels or VMware, Vmware Fusion or any other virtual operating system environment.

When does Laptop Registration begin?
Laptop Registration for the February Bar Examination will begin in December and in mid-May for the July Bar Examination.   On-line registration for laptop testing will be available 24 hours a day.

How do I sign up for Laptop Testing?
In order to receive Laptop Registration Information, log in to your home page at www.gabaradmissions.org.

    •    Click on the Application Forms tab, then click on APPLY under the Bar Exam Application heading.

    •    Enter your response to the Eligibility Questions that appear on the screen.

    •    Answer “Yes” to the laptop question indicating that you plan to use a laptop computer to write the MultiState Performance Test (MPT) and Essay portions of the examination.  Your “Yes” answer DOES NOT register you for Laptop Testing.

    •    Submit the Eligibility Request to confirm that you wish to file for the Bar Exam and to use a laptop computer to write the MPT and Essay portions of the Bar Exam.

After you submit the Eligibility Request noted above, the Office of Bar Admissions will confirm your eligibility to take the Bar exam.  You will receive an email outlining the steps required to complete the Bar Exam registration process.  You will also receive an email notice regarding Laptop Registration.

If an applicant is eligible to receive Laptop Registration Information, an ExamSoft Account will be activated for you, an email notice from GABarLaptop@gaappeals.us will be sent to the email address you provided.

    •    Laptop Registration Instructions, the Applicant Number, and Password will be included in that email notice.

You must use the Applicant Number and Password to:

    •    Access the Exam Takers section of the Registration Site, www.examsoft.com/gabar.

    •    Pay the $100.00 Laptop Fee directly to ExamSoft via credit card or PayPal.

    •    Start the Laptop Registration process on the Registration Site, www.examsoft.com/gabar.

The Laptop Fee is nonrefundable.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to apply for Laptop Testing and complete the entire Laptop Registration process as EARLY as possible, but prior to the expiration of the posted Laptop Registration deadline. encouraged to carefully read the contents of the email notice BEFORE registering and downloading the software.

Laptop Registration does not register an applicant for the Bar Examination. The laptop fee is separate from and in addition to the regular Bar Exam Application charges. Laptop applicants
must complete and submit the regular Bar Examination Application and charges to the Office of Bar Admissions by the posted Bar Examination Application deadline.

DO NOT WAIT near the expiration of the posted Laptop Registration deadline to apply for Laptop Testing and complete the entire Laptop Registration Process because the Office of Bar Admissions may not have enough time to process your request, verify your eligibility to receive email notices, and to activate an ExamSoft Account for you, which means that you WILL NOT be allowed to use your laptop for the Bar Examination.

Only those applicants who answer YES to the laptop question when they access the Bar Examination Registration information on their home page at www.gabaradmissions.org will receive Laptop Registration Information.

What happens after I indicate that I plan to use a laptop computer to write the Bar Examination?
The Office of Bar Admissions will verify your eligibility to take the Bar Examination and to use a laptop computer for the actual Bar Examination for which you have received Certification of Fitness. Applicants may apply for Laptop Testing after the Board to Determine Fitness of Bar Applicant certifies that he or she is fit to practice law (See Part A, Section 11 of the Rules Governing Admission to Practice Law.).

If the applicant is eligible to receive Laptop Registration Information, the Office of Bar Admissions will activate an ExamSoft Account close to the published beginning date for Laptop Registration.  Once the ExamSoft Account is activated, a separate email notice from GABarLaptop@gaappeals.us will be sent to the email address the applicant provided.

Laptop Instructions, the Applicant Number and Password WILL be included in that email notice. Applicants should check their email often. Applicants must use the Applicant Number and Password to access the Exam Takers section of this Custom Home Page to start the Laptop Registration Process.  Access to the Exam Takers section of the registration site will be available 24 hours a day once Laptop Registration begins.
