Frequently Asked Questions about Laptop Testing

When is the laptop registration window?
Laptop registration will open at 10 a.m. on June 4 and will close at 4 p.m. on July 3, 2024.

How do I obtain a user ID and password?
Applicants who register for the July Bar Exam will receive an email from ExamSoft (which will be sent to the address they provided to the Office of Bar Admissions) that includes their user ID and password, along with instructions on how to register their laptop. Applicants who register for the Bar Exam by June 1 will receive their email from ExamSoft on the morning of June 4; applicants who register for the Bar Exam after June 1 (but before the Bar Exam registration deadline at 4 p.m. on June 15) will receive their email from ExamSoft on June 13 or June 20. The emails will come from noreply@examsoft.com.

What are the steps for laptop registration?
1. Go to https://www.examsoft.com/gabar and login with your user ID and password in the “Exam Takers” section in the upper left of the page.
2. Make sure your laptop meets all minimum system requirements. To view them, click here.
3. Download and install Examplify on the laptop you will use on exam day. Should you need to re-download the software to a different laptop, you will have to pay a $50 administrative fee.
4. Enter your institution ID, user ID, and password to register Examplify on your laptop. Those credentials will be included in the email(s) from ExamSoft.
5. Your exam files and mock exam file will be automatically downloaded to your laptop.
6. Complete and upload the mandatory mock exam. You make take additional mock exams closer to exam day to (re)familiarize yourself with Examplify’s features.

What are the requirements for mock exams?
Applicants must upload one mock exam (which must be completed by July 3 at 4 p.m.), and they may upload additional mock exams (which may be completed anytime until exam day). The password to open the mock exam(s) is Mock123. Make sure to use initial capitalization.

Is there a character count limit?
No. (The character limit is set higher than could possibly be reached during each exam session.)

What features are enabled on Examplify for the Georgia Bar Exam?
Spell check, redo, undo, copy, paste, find/replace, and word count are all enabled. You should not use “cut,” as it may result in lost text.

If I registered my laptop for a previous bar exam, can I skip any steps in the laptop registration process?
No. You must follow all the steps in the email you receive from ExamSoft (which includes downloading the most current version of Examplify). You will not be able to use your laptop with the version you uploaded for a prior exam.

Do I need to own the laptop I register?
No. But make sure the laptop you register and use is reliable (it must meet the minimum system requirements described above) and that you are familiar enough with it to avoid problems on exam day.

How will I know how to use Examplify on Exam Day?
The mock exams will help you understand how to use Examplify’s features. When you arrive at your table to take the Exam, you will find printed instruction sheets with reminders on how to launch, navigate, and exit Examplify, as well as what to do if you encounter technical issues during the Exam. ExamSoft engineers will also be present at the Bar Exam to provide limited technical support.

How will I upload my exam answers?
You will have until noon (Eastern Time) on Thursday, August 1 to upload your exam files. Examplify will upload your MPT and Essay answer files automatically once internet connectivity is established.
